Jackie Stanton
Iconic Re-Genesis

Inspired by the universal drive towards endless diversity, Jackie Stanton uses everything that comes to her hand in this new collection of paintings. Silk screens, ink, charcoal, paint, rice paper, varnish; she manages to circumscribe the chaos: ordering it, making sense of it and ultimately rendering it through the reality of her art. Never abandoning her desire to bring about the perfectly unique, Stanton is encouraged to proceed along each new an unfamiliar path, divesting herself of persistent visions and fixations. Included in this exhibition are new works on paper. These are a continuation and extension of her paintings. They embody the elusive and fragmentary moments in her psyche. The remnants of a meteoric plunge through the atmosphere: the glowing particles of a fully experienced life. This is Stanton’s second show with Cella Gallery.

W.B. Fontenot
The Misfits of Room 210

In W.B. Fontenot’s most recent body of work the audience is allowed a voyeuristic look into the theatrical world that he has created. Each Misfit carries a secret: lust, loneliness, faith, fear, jealousy, spite? The frozen moments in time leave you expecting, anxious; anything might happen. Single frames that have the feeling of being extracted from a larger moving picture supply the impression that you are only getting a glimpse of an ongoing story, an intimate story that was never intended for you to see. The colors and the costumes may invite you in, but one cannot help sense that the moments captured between Fontenot’s lens and these Misfits are wholly private. It is curiosity that drives the longing to know more. Is death looming around the corner? Did she stay faithful to him? With a sometimes tongue-in-cheek look at life, Fontenot winks at us from within the frame. Never taking himself too seriously, he strikes the perfect balance of playfulness, sexuality and raw human emotion. Cella Gallery welcomes W.B. Fontenot.
